YDP Sports Rally a Major Hit
Four football teams, two netball teams and four young men were awarded in October 2022 after they competed in the Youth Development Programme’s (YDP) Sports Rally at The Lester Vaughan School.
A total of 668 young people at 43 locations across the island took part in YDP’s annual community-based 10-week training programme, held from July 4 to September 24, 2022. It culminated with a one-day sports rally at the Lester Vaughan School, Cane Garden, St. Thomas in October, during which the young men and women keenly contested in cricket, volleyball, road tennis, football, basketball and handball.
At the closing ceremony, awards were made to the events’ first and second-place winners. Ireko Small received the championship trophy in the primary category of the Road Tennis finals. Meanwhile, Rezario Callendar secured the second place trophy. In the senior boys category of the Road Tennis finals, Khalil Clarke received the championship trophy while Daniel Farrakhan took home the second place trophy. The Eden Lodge Football Team emerged as the champions in the Under-13 football finals while The Foundation School’s team secured second place. The Whitehall Football Team dominated the Under-19 category of the football finals to walk away with the Championship. The St. Joseph Football Team secured the second place trophy.
Meanwhile in netball, The Pinelands Team was crowned the champions and the St. Christopher Team secured the second place trophy. All teams were well represented in the games and the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment salutes all participants for their valiant efforts.
