Sports for Development

The YDP is aware of the important role sports play in the development of our youth population. Sport is used by our youth as an avenue for leisure, socialization, and networking as well as for the building of stronger communities. Recognizing its importance to youth and youth development, the YDP also use the National Sports Training Programme as an intervention strategy.

This strategy has proven to be very effective in the past. Several young men and women who participated in the YDP have gone on to represent their community, their team as well as their country at the national level. During the financial year 2007 – 2008, the YDP National Sports Training Programme attracted eleven hundred and sixty seven (11067) persons. Eight hundred and thirty one persons (831) were evaluated at the conclusion of the programme.

This programme constitutes forty (40) contact hours and is done over a period of ten (10) weeks.
